According to WFIW Radio, the Xenia Fire Protection District responded to the fire around 7:55 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the rear wall and roof of the structure.

The fire destroyed a combine, tractor, planter, seed drill, grain truck, and other equipment stored inside the building. A grain cart parked nearby was also lost.

Crews faced several challenges during the response, including limited access to the building, multiple pieces of equipment inside, and several explosions during the early stages of firefighting. A total of 40 firefighters from two departments assisted in the response.

Fire officials believe the blaze may have originated with one of the pieces of equipment stored inside the shed, although an official cause has not been determined.

Agricultural Property Claims Considerations

A fire involving both farm structures and machinery can create a complex property loss, particularly when several high-value pieces of equipment are damaged or destroyed in the same incident.

For adjusters handling these losses, important considerations may include:

• Origin and cause: Investigating where the fire began and whether equipment was involved.
• Building damage: Documenting structural damage and determining the extent of the loss.
• Equipment inventory and valuation: Identifying individual machines, documenting their condition and value, and evaluating repair, replacement, or salvage options.
• Coverage considerations: Reviewing applicable building, machinery, and equipment coverages, including property stored outside the structure.

Thorough documentation of each damaged asset, along with the circumstances surrounding the fire, can help support an accurate evaluation of the claim.
